Welcome to my Rett Rider Page
I am participating in the Rett Ride Across America – a cycling event to raise awareness and funds for Rett syndrome. The ride across America was started by my cousin riding his bicycle across the country (twice) to raise awareness for kids with Rett Syndrome. This year he is doing it a bit differently; multiple teams across America to bring even more awareness. I am not a cyclist, but I do ride something with a different set of 'wheels'. My team will be riding horses in a charity horse show/fun day on October 6th, to help raise funds and awareness for Rett Syndrome. Outside of the charity fun day we are putting on, I have set a personal goal as well. The money raised will fuel research toward effective treatments and a curefor Rett syndrome.
Rett syndrome is a rare neurological disorderwhich becomes apparent in infancy or early childhood. It occurs in 1 in 10,000 births and primarily affects females, though it can occur in boys. The children develop normally for the first 6 to 18 months and then begin to regress – or lose acquired skills. Rest syndrome causes changes in the brain that lead to lifelong impairments, including inability to speak, seizures, scoliosis and breathing difficulties. More than half of those affected lose the ability to walk. Most require maximum assistance with basic daily activities.
Your donation will help fund important researchand critical family support. This cause is very important to me and I appreciate your help as we fight for a cure for Rett syndrome!
Please join me or donate to my efforts to support Rettsyndrome.org in finding a cure!
