14th Annual St. Louis Strollathon

Team Gio

It’s that time of year again, time for our favorite event-the strollathon! The Strollathon is Rettsyndrome.org’s signature fundraising and awareness event, to raise money for essential research of effective treatments and to find a cure for Rett syndrome. This cause is so near and dear to our hearts as our precious Gio and so many of his Rett brothers and sisters are relying on the funds raised to help us help them #overpowerrett.

Rett syndrome is a genetic neurological disorder occurring almost exclusively in females and becoming apparent after 6-18 months of early normal development. The resulting regression leads to lifelong impairments, including lost speech, seizures, scoliosis, irregular breathing patterns, and more than half of the children and women lose the ability to walk. Those diagnosed with Rett syndrome require maximum assistance with basic daily activities. Gio is one in ~72 males identified globally with this diagnosis and we’re certain there are many more out there who haven’t been properly diagnosed. To this day most clinicians are telling families of males they are the only ones, that Rett syndrome doesn’t exist in males. Please help us spread awareness so the kids affected by this condition receive timely diagnoses and necessary supports. Awareness and education are so crucial to our cause. If you can, please consider donating, every penny counts. If a monetary donation isn’t something you can consider right now, consider donating your time, join our team, tell just one person all about Rett syndrome to show support and spread the word.

Your donation will help fund important research and family support. With so many studies including drug trials and promising research with gene therapies, we’ve never been more hopeful. Those of you who know us know Gio is the light of our life. The idea that we could one day take his countless daily obstacles from him and watch him truly thrive is everything to us. I speak for Team Gio and the rest of the Rett syndrome community when I say we TRULY appreciate your help as we fight tirelessly for a cure for Rett syndrome!

Your help is our hope!
