Welcome to Team Kinzler's Fundraising Page
The Kinzler family is a proud supporter of Iowa's efforts to raise money for Rett Syndrome Research. Kevin & Yvonne Kinzler's daughter, Lacey, was diagnosed with Rett Syndrome just before her second birthday, 35 years ago.
Rett syndrome is a genetic neurological disorder occurring almost exclusively in females and becoming apparent after 6-18 months of early normal development. The resulting regression leads to lifelong impairments, including lost speech, seizures, scoliosis, irregular breathing patterns, and more than half of the children lose the ability to walk. Those diagnosed with Rett syndrome require maximum assistance with basic daily activities.
As the COVID-19 crisis deepens, Rett families are facing new and unprecedented challenges such as the loss of therapies, one-on-one support at school and home, and the concern over maintaining doctor visits. These add to the daily burden of caring for someone with severe special needs. The need for our educational programming and support services has never been greater. At the same time, the urgency remains for research to move toward an FDA-approved treatment for Rett syndrome. Nearly all Rett.org funds come through private donations, and your support is critical to our success.
The Strollathon, Rettsyndrome.org’s signature fundraising and awareness event, is to raise money for essential research of effective treatments and to find a cure for Rett syndrome. Because of COVID-19, we are avoiding large gatherings so this year many Iowa Rett families will be hosting local fund-raising events. In October, we’ll gather, in-person or virtually, to celebrate the grand total.
The Kinzler family “event” is this simple online request for your donation. The time is now, we can't stop the forward progress! Please join us and donate to our efforts to continue the path to treatments and a cure for Rett Syndrome.
